Year 2000 Pork Check-Off Funded Research Grants

The National Pork Producers Council, in cooperation with the National Pork Board, financially supports and encourages research that will create more efficient production and marketing of higher quality pork products in a safe and responsible manner. This industry-sponsored research has strong positive impact on the enhancement of pork producers’ opportunity for profit, at the same time assisting them in the production of a high-quality, safe, nutritious product that is desired by consumers.

From checkoff funds, pork producers allocated $1,500,000 in competitive grant research projects during 1999. The contracts for these projects begin in 2000. The research funds are allocated in the following areas:

In most cases, additional funding from other sources enhances producer funding, including the federal government. That makes the total impact much greater than the initial producer checkoff grant. Below and continuing on the next page is a listing of the projects funded for the year 2000, with the investigating institution and primary investigator.
