AASV Membership
Veterinarians and Veterinary Students worldwide are eligible for membership in the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV).
- Veterinarian membership is conducted on a calendar-year (Jan-Dec) basis with no pro-rating of dues.
- Veterinary student membership is conducted on a school-year (Sept-Aug) basis.

Individuals seeking Active, Associate, Student, or Graduate Student membership, please complete and submit the Membership Application.
Non-veterinarians may apply for AFFILIATE Membership in the AASV. This requires a different application, which must be reviewed and approved by the AASV Executive Committee. Most successful applicants have an advanced degree in a related field such as animal science or nutrition and are actively conducting research of benefit to the swine industry. AFFILIATE members receive all of the benefits of membership with the exception of voting and office holding privileges. Click here for a pdf of the Affiliate Membership Application.

Classes of AASV membership
The following is a summary of the requirements and benefits of the various classes of membership in AASV and subscription to JSHAP. These are subject to change by the AASV Board at any time. This information is believed correct as of July 2024. The requirements listed here are the briefest of summaries; please see the current bylaws or contact the AASV office for complete descriptions.
Active membership
- Must hold DVM or equivalent
- Must reside in an AASV district (USA, Canada, Mexico)
- Active members may vote and hold office
Associate membership
- Must hold DVM or equivalent
- Resides outside an AASV district (USA, Canada, Mexico)
- Associate members do not vote or hold office
Student members
- Must be enrolled in veterinary school
- May attend AASV Annual Meeting (free registration)
- Student members do not vote or hold office
Graduate student members
- Must be enrolled full-time in Masters/PhD program related to swine
- May register to attend AASV Annual Meeting (half rate)
- Subscription to JSHAP online only
- May vote and hold office if eligible for Active membership (veterinarian in US, Canada, or Mexico)
Affiliate members
- “…shall have made noteworthy and outstanding contributions…”
- May attend AASV Annual meeting
- Affiliate members do not vote or hold office
- Requires review and approval by AASV Executive Committee
Inactive (retired) members
- 10 years continuous membership; retired from veterinary activity
- May also be granted by Board for special circumstances
- Dues paid at half rate
- May vote and hold office if residing in an AASV district (USA, Canada, Mexico)
Life member
- Must hold DVM or equivalent
- Age 70+
- 25 years continuous membership
- Apply to Board for approval
- Dues waived
- May vote and hold office
JSHAP subscriber
Print subscriptions to the Journal of Swine Health and Production are available to any individual or organization. A subscription is not a class of membership. The online edition of the Journal is available for free.
