The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Swine Production Medicine at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The appointment will be in the Production Animal Medicine and Services section of the newly formed Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine. Duties will include teaching students in the DVM curriculum, training residents and graduate students, providing specialized clinical services and outreach programs to practicing veterinarians and the swine industry, and conducting an interactive research program that competes successfully for external funding. Advanced training at the MS or PhD levels in clinical swine medicine, epidemiology, animal health economics, food safety, or related disciplines is desirable. Women and minority applicants are encouraged. Qualifications for this position include the DVM degree or equivalent, an advanced degree, and demonstrated clinical expertise. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The proposed starting date is March 1, 1998. University of Minnesota
The University of Minnesota wishes to fill one fulltime tenure- or nontenure-track faculty position in swine production medicine. Rank, tenure status, and terms of appointment will depend on qualifications and experience consistent with collegiate and University policy. Candidates must have a DVM, VMD, or equal degree from a foreign university plus an advanced degree (e.g., MS, PhD, MBA, MPH).
Candidates must have experience in swine veterinary medicine, with an emphasis on production. Desirable attributes include: demonstrated research expertise in a focused area of swine production medicine that complements existing programs or addresses a recognized emerging problem; competent in study design, data analysis and management, preferably with PigCHAMP(R) data; clinically competent in swine; demonstrated competence in teaching; commitment to extension and continuing education programs; potential for developing innovative products or services that support the swine industry; strong collaborative and interpersonal skills; and excellent communication skills.
The faculty member will be expected to develop a nationally recognized program of original research in swine production medicine which may include utilization of the PigCHAMP(R) database. The faculty member will be expected to contribute to the college’s programs in teaching, graduate training, continuing education and extension, and to provide service to practitioners and producers in herd problem investigation and resolution.
