AASV Position Statement: PEDV Elimination
For the long-term success of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) elimination, an effective intervention tool (e.g., modified live vaccines, subunit vaccines, vaccines using RNA or DNA technology, antivirals, etc.) is needed to reduce shedding of field virus and/or stimulate immunity. This would reduce the PEDV reservoir that exists in the US post-weaned population and therefore eliminate the need for intentional exposure in replacement breeding stock.
