AASVF – Merck Veterinary Student Scholarship Program
The AASVF-Merck Veterinary Student Scholarship Program seeks to identify and assist future swine veterinarians with their educational expenses. Merck Animal Health has provided $50,000 to enable the AASV Foundation to award a $10,000 scholarship to each of FIVE veterinary students in 2025.
Second- and third-year veterinary students enrolled in AVMA-accredited or -recognized colleges of veterinary medicine in the US, Canada, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean Islands are eligible to apply for one of the five $10,000 scholarships to be awarded. All applicants must be current (2024-25) student members of AASV. Each applicant is required to submit a resume, the name of a faculty member or a member of the AASV to serve as a reference, and to answer four essay questions. Applications for the scholarships to be awarded in 2025 are due December 31.
Students who have previously been awarded one of these scholarships from AASV or the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) are not eligible to apply.
To apply, submit the following:
1) AASVF-Merck Application – Download and save the fillable PDF as “Lastname-Firstname-MERCK”
2) Your 1-2 page resume: Save in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format as “Lastname-Firstname-RESUME” (Doe-Jane-RESUME)
Send the application AND resume by email to foundation@aasv.org no later than December 31. You will receive an email reply within 2 business days to confirm receipt of your application materials.
The selection process will be conducted by a committee of four, including two AASV Foundation Board members and two AASV members-at-large. The applications will be reviewed by the committee members, who will score the responses to each of the four essay questions on a scale of 1 to 10. Scores will be totaled, resulting in a range of 0 to 40 points.
The five scholarship recipients will be announced on Monday, March 3 during the AASV/AASV Foundation Luncheon at the 2025 AASV Annual Meeting in San Francisco (attendance not required).
