Internal and external program reviews were initiated in FY 2015 for APHISâ surveillance program for influenza A virus in swine (IAV-S) to assess the program and help inform future VS budget formulation efforts. The original funding for this program was received from DHHS as part of a fiscal year (FY) 2009 supplemental appropriation in response to the H1N1 pandemic. Shere Named Acting USDA CVO
Dr. Jack Shere has been named acting USDA Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) and Deputy Administrator for Veterinary Services. Acting in these roles, Dr. Shere will lead the programâs many employees in protecting and improving the health, quality, and marketability of U.S. agricultural animals, animal products, and veterinary biologics. Influenza Surveillance Program Reports Released
USDA has released the first quarterly reports for the Influenza A Virus in Swine (IAV-S) Surveillance Program initiated in 2010. These reports summarize the results from the USDA-APHIS-VS IAV-S surveillance program for FY 2015. The report is intended to provide swine producers, practitioners, diagnosticians, and the public with a brief status update of national surveillance for IAV-S.
