USDA Announces Scholarship Program
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is pleased to announce the 2018 Adel A. Malak Scholarship Program. The scholarship was created to honor the memory of Dr. Adel A. Malak, a dedicated former FSIS Public Health Veterinarian (PHV), the program is looking to recruit students to crucial Public Health Veterinarian positions in the Office of Field Operations (OFO).
PIC Swine Veterinary Externship Program
PIC North America offers a limited number of two-week externships based in Hendersonville, TN, for veterinary students committed to swine production medicine. Current third year students are encouraged to apply. Applications for July 2018-June 2019 are being accepted through January 31, 2018. The objective of the program is to expose proactive swine veterinary students to a pioneering genetics company with a focus on the role of the swine veterinarian in a high health breeding stock multiplication system.
FFAR Awards $2.7 Million to Create Fellowship Program to Foster the Next Generation of Food and Agriculture Scientists
The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR), a nonprofit established through bipartisan congressional support in the 2014 Farm Bill, today announced a $2.7 million grant to launch the FFAR Fellowship Program. A team at North Carolina State University led by John Dole, Ph.D., will manage the program. The grant will be matched by a consortium of industry leaders dedicated to preparing the agricultural workforce to optimize impact on the future of the industry.

The Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine (ISU CVM) is seeking veterinary student applicants for two distinct, swine-specific internship programs, the Swine Medicine Applied Research Internship (SMARI) with the Swine Medicine Education Center (SMEC), and the Swine Veterinary Internship Program (SVIP). Seaboard Foods Production Health Veterinary Internship
The Seaboard Foods veterinarian internship gives veterinary students insight and experience in population medicine as it is applied in an integrated pork production system. The veterinarian internship will provide hands-on and technical training in veterinarian practices, including necropsy, blood and tissue collection, differential diagnosis lists, developing action and treatment plans, conducting health audits, and managing other health concerns as they arise. The veterinary internship may require several mini-projects as assigned by the veterinary staff throughout the summer. This internship is a paid internship, with housing and utility costs provided. The internship is approximately ten (10) weeks and is located in Guymon, Oklahoma.
