AASV Foundation-Funded PRRSV Monitoring Research: Final Report
In 2023, the AASV Foundation granted $22,708 to Dr. Daniel Linhares and co-investigators from Iowa State University to partially fund the proposal, “Assessing the performance of tongue tips as an additional tool to monitor PRRSV in breeding herds undergoing virus elimination.” The project is complete and the final report is available.
AASV Foundation-Funded PRRSV Tonsil Sampling Research: Final Report
In 2023, the AASV Foundation granted $24,855 to Dr. Daniel Linhares and coinvestigators from Iowa State University to fund the proposal, “Comparison of a novel rapid tonsil sampling method to serum, oral fluid, and tonsil scraping to detect PRRSV in sows.” The project is complete and the final report is available.

In 2023, the AASV Foundation granted $22,440 to Dr. Daniel Linhares and coinvestigators from Iowa State University to fund the proposal, “Probability of influenza A virus RNA detection at different pooling levels for commonly used sample types in breeding herds.” The project is complete and the final report is available.

In 2023, University of Minnesota researcher Dr. Kimberly VanderWaal and coinvestigators were awarded $29,997 by the AASV Foundation to fund the proposal, “Fine-scale classification of PRRSV-2: Moving past RFLPs to improve sequence interpretation for disease control and management.” The project is complete and the final report is available.

The foundation’s annual auction fundraiser was held March 26 in the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Resort during the AASV Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. The event was coordinated by the 2024 Auction Committee, led by co-chairs Drs. Chase Stahl, John Waddell, and Butch Baker.
First AASV Foundation ABVP Scholarship Awarded to Jessica Seate
In 2023, the AASV Foundation Board of Directors established the Swine Health Management Scholarship Program to annually support one AASV member interested in pursuing certification through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). As part of its mission to support the development and scholarship of students and veterinarians, the goal of this program is to relieve some of the financial burden associated with achieving board certification.
Merck Animal Health Supports Future Swine Practitioners through Partnership with AASV Foundation
Merck Animal Health, known as MSD Animal Health outside of the United States and Canada, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, N.J., USA (NYSE:MRK), continued its commitment to the swine industry’s next generation of veterinarians by partnering with the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation (AASVF) to sponsor the 2024 recipients of the AASVF and Merck Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship Program.
