Developing a plan for swine vaccination administration is more than a good idea. It can help producers keep various health considerations top of mind for their animals. Iowa Pork Industry Center has released a new publication in chart format that provides a list of diseases, time of administration, and based on risk, available product types. It also has a section for pet pigs.

Call for Abstracts: AASV 2024 Student Seminar and Poster Scholarship Competition
The American Association of Swine Veterinarians announces an opportunity for veterinary students to make a scientific presentation at the AASV Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Interested students are invited to submit a one-page abstract of a research paper, clinical case study, or literature review for consideration. The submitting student must be a current (2023-24) student member of the AASV at the time of submission, and must not have graduated from veterinary school prior to February 25, 2024. Submissions are limited to one (1) abstract per student.
SMEC to Hold CSSC Trainings
The Swine Medicine Education Center will hold four, two-day training sessions for the Certified Swine Sample Collector program. These trainings will be geared toward individuals with limited swine experience and will include visits to breeding and grow-finish facilities.

Canada to Establish a Vaccine Bank for Foot-and-mouth Disease
As part of the annual conference of Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Agriculture, Canadian Ministers confirmed their commitment to respond to animal disease outbreaks through the establishment of a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine bank. Budget 2023 committed $57.5 million over 5 years, with $5.6 million ongoing, to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to establish an FMD Vaccine Bank for Canada, and to develop FMD response plans.
Vietnam Approves Commercial Use of First African Swine Fever Vaccines
Vietnam has approved the domestic commercial use of two home-grown vaccines against African swine fever (ASF), the government said on Monday, making them the world’s first commercial vaccines against the deadly disease.
