The EVP Graduate Certificate Program in Systems Health Management Application is Open- Apply now!

The EVP Graduate Certificate Program in Systems Health Management is now accepting applications for our spring cohort, which will begin in January 2024. The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine will admit 25 students into the program and do a rolling admission process, so please do not wait to submit your application! The early application deadline is September 15th. EVP has been re-structured and built on the foundation of “an engineering-based approach to improvement”.

AASV Foundation Golf Outing Rescheduled for September 27

Due to the extreme heat, the AASV Foundation Golf Outing originally slated for August 23 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 27. The location and time for the best ball tournament fundraiser remain the same: Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames, Iowa; 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Comment Now: Swine Traceability Standards

In response to the growing threat from foreign animal diseases (FADs) including African Swine Fever (ASF), representatives from the National Pork Producers Council and the National Pork Board identified six ASF preparedness priorities for industry. Among them -“develop a plan to regain export markets” – which will require improvements to our ability to trace live hogs.

AASV Members Recognized by AMVEC

The LV Annual Congress of the Mexican Association of Veterinary Specialists in Pigs (AMVEC), convened an attendance of more than 1,000 professionals from various areas of the swine sector, who sought, through the program of conferences, workshops and pre-congresses, to be trained in matters of health, sanitation, sustainability, animal welfare, food safety and more.

APHIS Seeks to Strengthen Agricultural Quarantine and Inspection

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is seeking comments on a proposed rule to amend regulations governing its Agricultural Quarantine and Inspection program user fees. APHIS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection jointly administer the AQI program, which assures that cargo and passenger baggage entering the country is inspected for plant pests and potential sources of animal diseases that could affect U.S. agriculture, trade and commerce. Foreign pests and diseases can be devastating to U.S. agriculture and the broader U.S. economy, and the AQI program is highly successful at preventing such disruptions.

Call for Abstracts: AASV 2024 Student Seminar and Poster Scholarship Competition

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians announces an opportunity for veterinary students to make a scientific presentation at the AASV Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Interested students are invited to submit a one-page abstract of a research paper, clinical case study, or literature review for consideration. The submitting student must be a current (2023-24) student member of the AASV at the time of submission, and must not have graduated from veterinary school prior to February 25, 2024. Submissions are limited to one (1) abstract per student.
