The National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS) currently tracks antimicrobial resistance data at the level of the meat case, the harvest facility and across cases of human foodborne illness. However, no such effort exists at the level of the swine farm, yet.

Veterinarian Salaries Struggle to Keep up with Inflation
The mean veterinarian income actually saw a slight decline when accounting for inflation, going from $147,787 in 2021 to $146,782 in 2022 (using 2022 dollars). The annual inflation rate for the U.S. was 6.5% last year.

As AASV opens nominations for the awards to be presented at the 2024 annual meeting, it seems especially appropriate to keep the meeting theme – Leading AASV into the Future – in mind. Do you know a member who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and vision as they carry out their role in practice, tech services, academia, research, or another area? Someone whose actions are benefiting and leading AASV and the swine veterinary profession into the future? Nominate them for one of the following six awards to be presented in Nashville, Tennessee! Nominations are due December 11.
Researchers: Proposals for Funding Due Friday 12/15
The AASV Foundation plans to award up to $100,000 in 2024 to support research with direct application to the swine veterinary profession and is now receiving proposals to be considered for funding. Proposals are due by 12:00 PM Central Time on December 15, 2023, and may request a maximum of $30,000 per project.

The AASV Foundation Board of Directors has established the Swine Health Management Scholarship Program to annually support one AASV member interested in pursuing certification through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). As part of its mission to support the development and scholarship of students and veterinarians, the goal of this program is to relieve some of the financial burden associated with achieving board certification.
