Application period open for 2024 FFAR Vet Fellows

Veterinarians are vital to maintaining a safe U.S. food supply and play a critical role in protecting public health. The United States is facing a shortage of livestock and poultry veterinarians. According to a recent report, only 3%-4% of new veterinary college graduates have entered food animal-related practices over the last 20 years, a 40% reduction from about 40 years ago.

February 22: SHIC/FFAR JEV Research Program Informational Webinar

The Swine Health Information Center and the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) have partnered to fund a $1 million research program to enhance US prevention, preparedness, and response capabilities for Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a transboundary disease risk for US introduction. SHIC and FFAR are co-hosting an informational webinar regarding the request for proposals on February 22, 2024, at 3:00 pm CST to provide additional details about the application criteria.

AASV Office Closed February 21-28 for Annual Meeting

The AASV office will be closed Wednesday, February 21 through Wednesday, February 28 to allow staff time to travel to and from Nashville to conduct the 2024 AASV Annual Meeting. The office will reopen on Thursday, March 1. We hope you’re planning to join us! If you’re not already registered, we’ll accept on-site registrations beginning Saturday, February 24.
