In 2023, the AASV Foundation granted $22,440 to Dr. Daniel Linhares and coinvestigators from Iowa State University to fund the proposal, “Probability of influenza A virus RNA detection at different pooling levels for commonly used sample types in breeding herds.” The project is complete and the final report is available.

USDA joins FarmRaise to offer online livestock disaster decision tools
The USDA has unveiled a new, online Livestock Indemnity Program Decision Tool and farm loan resources available to agricultural producers and cooperators who help producers access USDA disaster assistance, farm loans and other federal farm programs. The new LIP tool and the farm loan informational video resources were developed in partnership with FarmRaise and USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

After a decade of concentrated efforts on a control and eradication plan, the Agricultural and Livestock Service announced that Chile has declared itself a country free of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, now noting its position as the nation with the best sanitary condition for the pork industry in Latin America.

Iowa Foreign Animal Disease Defense Program (IFAD) Meetings Offered
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, in collaboration with the Center for Food Security and Public Health, is offering regional meetings as part of the Iowa Foreign Animal Disease Defense Program (IFAD) to further develop our state’s Foreign Animal Disease response capabilities. Participating in IFAD enhances Iowa’s ability to detect, respond, mitigate, and recover from FAD outbreaks by training professionals to fulfill these crucial needs. IFAD provides Iowa veterinarians with the right tools to identify FADs, collect appropriate samples, familiarity with reporting, and more.
