The Swine Medicine Education Center and National Pork Board will host a foreign animal disease tabletop exercise on April 27th, 2023 from 09:00 – 5:00 in Audubon, Iowa. The training is open to veterinarians, production staff, and allied partners.

Position Announcement: Research Veterinarian
The Research Veterinarian will provide veterinary care for pigs in a designated pathogen-free (DPF) facility. This role plays a critical part in the performance of all veterinary procedures (survival and non-surgeries, sample collection and necropsies) for the xenotransplantation program. The Research Veterinarian will provide routine veterinary care as well as preventive medical care, medical nursing, and euthanasia of the USDA covered species in addition to maintaining the animal health records.
Making an Impact: Scott Dee Honored at UMN
Over his 35-year career, Dr. Scott Dee, ’87 DVM, ’85 MS, ’96 PhD, has made a significant impact in the world of veterinary swine medicine through research efforts focused on infectious diseases. On April 6, the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) honored Dee for those efforts and more through its Distinguished Research Alumni award, presented as part of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine’s annual Research Day event.

Brucellosis is a complicated and profoundly destructive disease. The bacterium has a myriad of species that can infect different animal populations, both domestic and wild, with many of the Brucella species capable of spreading to humans. It can also be hard to identify clinically as, in the absence of abortions or stillbirths, the disease causes no distinct clinical signs.
