AASV Foundation Announces Student Seminar Awards and Scholarships

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $25,000 to 15 veterinary students who participated in the AASV Student Seminar at the Annual Meeting.

Sloane Murray, University of Guelph, received the $5000 scholarship for top student presentation. Sloane’s presentation was titled “Could we reduce vaccine reactogenicity in pigs?” The Zoetis Foundation provided funding for the Top Student Presenter Award.

Elanco Animal Health provides $20,000 in additional funding, enabling the AASV Foundation to award scholarships for 2nd through 15th place.

Four veterinary student presenters received $2500 scholarships: Julia Baker, University of Minnesota; Heejoo (Patrick) Jung, The Ohio State University; Macy Moore, Iowa State University; Nicole Seebach, University of Guelph

Five veterinary student presenters received $1500 scholarships: Lindsey Britton, North Carolina State University; Kristen Cleaver, Iowa State University; Gabriela Grant, University of Minnesota; Matilyn Wheeler, Iowa State University; Emma Zwart, Iowa State University

Those student presenters receiving $500 scholarships were: Daisy Cagle, North Carolina State University; Gabrielle Duhe, Louisiana State University; Rachel Retterath, University of Minnesota; Jacqueline Springer, University of Illinois; Elizabeth Taylor, University of Pennsylvania

Additionally, a grant from the Zoetis Foundation supports $750 awards for each student selected to participate in the oral session.

Forty-two veterinary students from 15 universities submitted abstracts for consideration by a panel of six veterinarians from private practice, industry, and academia. From those submissions, 15 students were selected to present during the annual meeting. Drs. Justin Brown and Jordan Gebhardt chaired the student seminar which was judged by those who scored the abstracts. AASV thanks judges Drs. Ben Blair, Darin Madson, Doug King, Megan Nickel, Megan Potter, and Meredith Petersen.
