Angela Baysinger Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given annually (starting in 2026) to a veterinary student or graduate student AASV member who has shown interest in swine welfare and the improvement of food animal welfare. This could be through field research in swine welfare or projects that promote education of veterinary students, veterinarians, and the public on the topic of swine welfare.

Applicants must be veterinary students, graduate students, residents, or interns pursuing an existing program in a college of veterinary medicine or appropriate graduate department in an academic institution.

Up to $10,000 may be disbursed annually, with a maximum award of $5000 per recipient.

Scholarship funds are intended to be used to support student experiential learning opportunities that will further enhance knowledge in swine welfare or specialization in the field of production animal welfare.

In addition to the monetary award for the selected student, a designated group of veterinary and welfare experts will plan to have direct communication with the recipient. The goals of this additional engagement will be to invite the student to share their learnings and experiences, to learn more about opportunities in production animal welfare, and to expand the student’s network of animal welfare experts.

Scholarship recipients will be expected to attend the AASV Pig Welfare Committee meetings held in person at the AASV Annual Meeting and virtually throughout the year.

Students conducting research projects related to swine welfare are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for presentation at the AASV Annual Meeting. Veterinary students may submit an abstract for the Student Seminar and Poster Session and graduate students may submit an abstract for the Research Topics session.
