Alex Hogg Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2008, the intent of the $10,000 Hogg Scholarship is to assist a swine veterinarian in his or her efforts to return to school for graduate education (resulting in a master’s degree or higher) in an academic field of study related to swine health and production.
Dr. Alex Hogg’s career serves as the ideal model for successful applicants:
As one of the early leaders of the American Association of Swine Practitioners, Dr. Hogg served as the secretary/treasurer and later as the president of the association. His career in veterinary medicine spanned over 50 years. Dr. Hogg was never one to be constrained by his career. Rather he built his career by taking on new challenges and endeavors. Dr. Hogg went from 20 years as a mixed animal practitioner to further education leading to a master’s degree in veterinary pathology. His love of teaching was fulfilled during his years as a Nebraska Swine Extension veterinarian and professor at the University of Nebraska. Upon “retirement,” Dr. Hogg capped off his career with his work for MVP Laboratories. Dr. Hogg will long be remembered for his ability to educate, encourage and elevate those around him.
