Position Announcement: Health Assurance Veterinarian

PIC seeks a veterinarian to be responsible for the implementation and communication of the PIC Health Assurance Program that enables the sustainable delivery of superior healthy genetic merit to customers. It will also provide health services and solutions to support the Technical Services and Sales teams’ efforts with key customers.

Job Description

  • Implement the Health Assurance Program that protects PIC supply chain and our customers’ herds:
  1. Monitor the health and surveillance program for specific PIC’s owned and contract multiplication flows.
  2. Provide health status information concerning product sources to customers in a timely manner.
  3. Perform risk assessments of the PIC multiplication flows and propose risk mitigation strategies.
  4. Actively participate in health-related data collection, organization and analysis.
  5. Complete welfare assessments and implement PIC’s welfare policy in owned and contract multiplication.
  • Assist in specific applied research projects to develop and/or validate novel health solutions.
  • Represent PIC/Genus and provide science-based information to the scientific community through national and international professional venues.
  • Participate in PIC-sponsored and industry-driven events that help facilitate further understanding of health assurance and services as points of difference within the PIC Value Proposition.
  • Interface with PIC Genetic team to facilitate optimal gene transfer between PIC herds while managing health risks, including imports/exports.
  • Establish effective professional relationships with customers and key production personnel to enable PIC account objectives and product performance.
  • Collaborate with Technical Services and customers to maximize genetic potential of PIC products within customers’ herds.
  • Gain exposure to customers’ herds to generate specific best-practice recommendations aiming to mitigate risk of disease introduction-dissemination and to improve herd health.
  • Get trained in areas of responsibility through sharing field time with experienced PIC veterinarians, accessing PIC on-boarding materials and programs, studying literature and attending scientific/industry meetings.
  • Hold confidential all Genus products and program proprietary knowledge as well as customer specific information.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited veterinary college.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in swine medicine and production.
  • Interest to work with all levels of production systems (owners, senior managers, production managers, technicians, nutritionists, veterinarians).
  • Communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Trained to assimilate, analyze and communicate technical information effectively, including the generation of technical documents.
  • Proficiency with information technology tools for analysis and communication of health and production related data.
  • Positive and proactive attitude in group and individual work environments.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
