Position Announcement: Swine Veterinarian

Livingston Enterprises, Inc., a 32,000 sow operation with headquarters based in Fairbury, Nebraska, is seeking a veterinarian to work with sow farms and grow-finish production teams to ensure herd health and animal welfare, improve overall production, and promote pork safety, pork quality, and public health. In this position, the veterinarian would collaborate with the existing production teams.

Responsibilities include:

Working with farm personnel to assess health issues and coordinating with management to develop strategies that address those issues; collaboratively developing improved processes around production management, health management, genetic improvement, and bio-security; and conducting farm assessments and evaluations and assisting in training company personnel on proper animal husbandry practices.

Essential Job Functions

  • Communicate and promote our core values and goals to team members
  • Effectively collaborate with sow farm and grow-finish supervisors, and other management team members to reach farm and company goals
  • Provide veterinary support to sow farm and grow/finish staff
  • Help implement all S.O.P.’s and train members of the nursery/finish/sow teams
  • Provide guidance about PQA’s and TQA’s for our team members and trainee’s
  • Performance monitoring (sow/nursery/finish)
  • Provide support for our animal welfare program

Requirements

Education: Doctorate degree in a discipline directly related to job.
Experience: Three years plus related experience (time in veterinary college counts towards experience).
Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills.
Special Skills: Requires licensure or willingness to obtain licensure in Nebraska and Kansas; a thorough understanding of diseases and disorders detrimental to the welfare of swine.

Education/Experience

  • Must possess a DVM with licenses in Nebraska & Kansas
