Carthage Innovative Swine Solutions, LLC seeks a Director of Research, based in Carthage, Illinois. The Director of Research is responsible for generation of studies, trial protocols, writing proposals, reviewing final reports, and discussing projects with sponsors. Director also oversees budgets and financial aspects of the business while coordinating meetings with various departments to ensure teamwork.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Hold regular meetings with sponsors, production staff, advisory group, and veterinarians
- Write protocols
- Write proposals and construct budgets
- Meet with Carthage Innovative Swine Solutions, LLC Managers, Project Manager and team weekly
- Ensure that projects meet Animal Care requirements
- Complete final reports
- Present data
- Oversee Carthage Swine Research Consortium activities and conduct data analysis and report writing as needed
- Manage alarms or emergencies as they occur
- Continually improve processes and efficiencies, the company business plan and personal work goals
- Assist any visiting interns in learning aspects of swine production and running any trials
- Adhere to the company’s confidentiality protocol
- Work closely with the department managers
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of trial design
- People and leadership skills
- Ability to problem solve
- Computer knowledge for basic programs
- Verbal and written communication
- Detail oriented
- Knowledge of pig production
Education and Work Experience
- PhD degree OR
- A Master’s degree in Animal Science AND
- Three to five years’ experience in the Animal Science field or related field

- Ability to perform in highly interruptive conditions
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work under frequent time pressures
- Ability to solve complex problems
- Ability to stand on concrete for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively
- Ability to push, pull, carry items on regular basis
