The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Population Medicine Department wishes to fill a full-time 12-month contract or tenure track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor faculty position in Swine Medicine. The final rank and terms of appointment will depend on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate consistent with collegiate and university policies.
Requirements
The candidate must have a DVM, VMD, or equivalent foreign degree and significant experience in swine health, production and economics. An advanced degree (e.g. MS, MBA or PhD), or an equivalent degree from a foreign institution, is preferred. The applicant must exhibit a passion for health and production data analysis, be an excellent communicator and able to work effectively in teams. The candidate must have a strong interest in and the potential to develop an extramurally funded research, as well as outreach and graduate training programs.
Duties
The individual will have significant interaction with swine producers and veterinarians of Minnesota and North America. Applied research and outreach will be a major component of this position. The individual is expected to develop a research program in swine health, production and economics. The person in this position will have the opportunity to play a significant role in food animal data analysis. Importantly, the person who fills the position will serve as a member of a team and collaborate with other University of Minnesota’s swine faculty.
The position requires teaching in both classroom and field of swine health, production and economics as well other disciplines related material in the DVM curriculum. The faculty member will be expected to contribute to a team effort in the swine program and to participate in DVM, graduate and continuing education. Other opportunities include collaboration with members of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences, School of Public Health, and Academic Health Center.
The faculty effort will be approximately 40% research, 35% outreach, and 25% graduate and DVM education.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is located on the smaller St. Paul campus which is a 10 minute shuttle bus ride from the Minneapolis campus. Classes at the College of Veterinary Medicine have 104 students per year with approximately 25% of students tracking in large and mixed animal medicine. The U of M ranks near the top of Universities in terms of students interested in large animal medicine/surgery.
