Position Announcement: Director of Swine Business Development

A unique opportunity exists for a dynamic Director of Swine Business Development to lead the swine business for Diamond V in North America. PURPOSE & SCOPE

In order for the company to achieve its overall strategic growth plan, it is seeking a Director of Swine Business Development to lead the development and execution of the swine business strategy in North America. Diamond V is seeking a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit, someone who is intimately familiar with the swine industry in North America. The successful candidate will be the face of Diamond V to the swine industry; from production to processing and including pork industry associations, the veterinary community, and nutrition professionals. Leadership, engagement, and relentless determination are a must. In short, Diamond V is seeking someone to take ownership of the swine business in North America and lead our effort in serving customers while driving growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Business Development:

  • Develops and leads execution of the North America swine business plan by collaborating with key Diamond V stakeholders from Management, Sales, Marketing, and Research
  • Provides input and recommendations to Marketing regarding marketing and communication needs, ideas and opportunities for the swine industry. This includes attendance or presence at major industry trade shows and events.
  • Provides input and recommendations to Research regarding swine research needs, ideas and opportunities. This includes networking with key researchers and thought leaders in the industry.
  • Provides recommendations regarding additional resources and personnel needed to further grow the swine business in North America

Business Plan Execution:

  • Builds and maintains an exceptional working relationships with major accounts and prospects in the swine industry. The account and contact base will include pork producers, packers, processors, veterinarians, nutrition professionals, supply chain personnel, government officials, and influencers.
  • Work closely with and represent the company to pork industry groups and associations
  • Develops and executes individual account plans for the key accounts and contacts as designated in the North America swine business plan

Administration:

  • Oversees the maintenance of the CRM swine account and contact database in North America
  • Completes monthly sales and expense reports according to established procedures.

  • Development of effective working relationships with others in the company through communication, cooperation, and team effort

STAFFING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports directly to the Director of National Accounts
  • Works in cooperative association with all sales, technical, and support personnel

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Diamond V does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status for this employment position.

Education:

Undergraduate degree (four year or greater) required. Agriculture, marketing and/or business majors preferred. Advanced technical degree (MBA, MS, PHD or DVM) a plus. Training in animal or food science, nutrition, and health are preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years experience in business development, sales, and/or sales management in a related field required. A track record of achieving and exceeding revenue/sales targets. Practical experience or background in pork production, and the swine industry is required.

Skills:

Possesses excellent listening and verbal communication skills. Has strong negotiating and sales presentation skills for meetings that can range in scope from one-on-one at the executive level to participating in producer meetings for major accounts. Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Ability to write clearly and understandably for business letters, memos, reports, etc. Ability to work independently, set priorities and organize work effectively. Good analytical ability: Identify and analyze problems, with limited standard procedures; propose reasonable solutions, make logical decisions, carry out decisions made and follow up when appropriate. Mathematical skills: Ability to accurately apply concepts of mathematics and statistics to practical situation. Must be a self-starter. Considerable mental concentration is required to work effectively under constant time pressures and with frequent interruption. Valid drivers license, good driving skills and insurable. Ability to maintain the integrity of highly confidential business information

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

Traveling extensively by automobile and air, with multiple nights out per week, is required. Extensive sedentary work involving sitting in a car or at a desk for extended periods of time. Walking, standing and exerting up to 50 pounds of force are required occasionally. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to grasp, and/or feel objects or controls. Talking, hearing, reading, writing, bending/stooping, and climbing stairs are required.

Required to use laptop computer, video projector, cell phone and other electronic equipment as needed. Duties require close vision, distance vision and depth perception. Involves some outside work with possible exposure to temperature extremes. Considerable physical stamina and mental toughness are required. At times, multiple calls and presentations in one day as well as long hours at trade shows, with extensive standing and walking.
