The Swine Care Handbook from the National Pork Board is a science-driven summary of swine care and husbandry practices. It serves as a resource for the industry’s certification programs and education materials, on-farm standard operating procedures and for industry positions on animal care and well-being. For the next two months, the producer association is seeking your feedback on the draft content of the revised handbook.
“Comments from all interested parties in the pork industry will play a role in providing a check and balance to the handbook’s development and will help determine the final content,” said Sherrie Webb, animal welfare director for the Pork Checkoff. “We hope to hear from producers and other stakeholders to provide us with solid feedback.”
To provide input, a user name and password must be created by going to http://swinecarehandbook.pork.org/. This will allow users to save any comments and return to enter additional comments later. Providing profile information will allow the National Pork Board to contact users if there are questions about comments.
“All comments should be as detailed as possible,” Webb said. “Be sure to offer alternative language when applicable including justification and supporting evidence for any proposed change.”
Questions about the handbook or the review process should be directed to Webb at swebb@pork.org.
