Murphy-Brown, LLC Waverly Division is seeking a Swine Production Veterinarian to provide veterinary support to the production group in the Waverly, Virginia Division. The individual will be part of the management team for the production system and will interact with all facets of the business to provide an efficient, low cost, safe and high quality product to the food supply.
The production veterinarian will be responsible for diagnosing health and production related issues, monitoring health protocols and following up on intervention strategies for sow, nursery and finishing in both commercial and multiplication production flows. The individual is expected to work as team with production staff addressing health and production challenges and with other MBE veterinarians to provide full life cycle health programs.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Interacting and communicating with people at all levels of management
- Performing efficient and effective farm visits
- Conducting on-farm veterinary clinical skills (clinical exam, necropsy, blood and sample collection)
- Problem solving
- Integrating non-health or new concepts into health programs (business, logistics, etc)
- Education of personnel on health related items
- Actively participate in industry related groups
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited school and be or become licensed in NC, VA and PA. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
- 2-4 years experience, swine production/leadership
- Current and valid drivers license with acceptable MVR
- Basic computer skills and a proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with and ability to develop, learn and adapt new technical/computer skills to business performance are preferred.
- Understanding of Pork Quality Assurance, Biosecurity and Animal Welfare programs as it relates to swine production
- Strong interpersonal and business communication/presentation skills
- Good organizational, time and project management skills.
- Able to work within a team, as well as independently
- Must be available for occasional travel
- Must be available to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Currently have or be able to pursue USDA Accreditation in NC, VA and PA.
