Ice Fishing and the Swine Veterinarian

Ah yes, remember just last winter, dragging the shack out onto the lake, boring a hole through the nearly foot-thick ice with a hand-powered auger (since someone forgot to bring fuel for the gas powered one), and then sitting on a 5 gallon bucket hoping some puny fish would happen by and be so unlucky as to hook itself on your rod? Well, now you can take the guess work out of it. Thanks to the AVMA PLIT/ you’ve got chance to bid on the Aqua-Vu Explorer 7 underwater camera and Fish Cam! See what’s under the ice before that bucket’s frozen to the seat of your Carhartts. You might even find the truck you lost in the lake last year!

It can get mighty cold out in that shack on the lake and with the fish cam above you’ll know that the fish are just next door at Ollie Svensen’s shack so you hate to leave. Why not stay warm wrapped up in a handmade quilt donated by Mary Ann Curran? If you remember last year’s auction, you’ll recall the beautiful quilt she was so kind to donate in memory of her husband Bernie. We’re sure this one will be just as special.

One of the big problems with ice fishing on a crowded lake is the sound system over in Ollie’s shack and 24 straight hours of Norwegian folk tunes. Well, now you can fight back. Ralco Nutrition has been so kind to donate a Bose Wave Radio II to the 2009 Foundation auction. This radio will fill your fish shack with all your favorite tunes through an auxiliary jack that lets you use your 8 track tape player (or an iPod) to bring back those classic ’70’s tunes so popular with ice fishing fanatics.

If, by chance, someone has been so crass as to cut the extension cord you stretched from the Motel 6 out by the highway thus limiting your ability to drown out Ollie with your Bose Radio, you may still be able to fish in peace using the Bose QuietComfort 3 Noise Cancelling Headphones. Thanks to the folks at Swine Veterinary Services, you can slip on these lightweight headphones and eliminate any outside noise including the incessant bragging about the record-setting 6 inch smelt Ollie caught 3 days ago!

To view these and other donated items, please visit the Foundation’s Auction Listings on the website. We’ve had a tremendous response to our requests for auction donations but we still need your donations and contributions! If you’d like to donate an item or make a financial contribution to buy an item for the auction we’ve extended the donation deadline. Please visit the auction page and complete a donation form. Submit the form to the AASV office (aasv@aasv.org).

We’ll see you at the Foundation Auction on March 9th in Dallas during the AASV Annual meeting celebrating the association’s 40th anniversary. This is your chance to support your Foundation!
