Position Announcement: Virologist

ViaGen, Inc. a biotechnology company headquartered in Austin, Texas, is seeking an experienced virologist to fill a key role as the subject-matter expert in animal health.

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, this individual will contribute to the further development of livestock cloning technology by conducting research on potential disease transmission in all components of the SCNT process. Bringing together a variety of backgrounds that combines medical, veterinary, and PhD expertise, the incumbent will act as a resource on animal health virology, queries, problems, and models. Additional responsibilities include implementing risk mitigation measures to reduce or eliminate disease transfer risk and working with the regulatory team to achieve domestic and global regulatory approval for movement of cloned animals and materials. Based out of Austin, TX, the position will require up to 50% travel to participate in industry conferences and act as spokesperson for ViaGen in matters related to cloning and animal health, virology, and disease transmission.

Minimum qualifications:
A Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) coupled with a PhD in Virology or viral disease transmission is highly desired. Specific knowledge in the areas of the bovine, equine and porcine species is essential. A minimum 10-15 years of experience with excellent critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills required. Preference will be given to candidates with a reputation as a credible (published) authority in animal viral disease transmission.
