The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) announced staff changes this week involving Dr. Lyle Vogel and Dr. Gail Golab.
Dr. Vogel has been promoted to the post of Interim Assistant Executive Vice President in the association’s Executive Division. In 1993, Dr. Vogel came to work at the AVMA as assistant director of Membership and Field Services (Public Health, Animal Disease Control and Management). In June of 1996, he was appointed director of the Scientific Activities Division. Most recently, Dr. Vogel has served as the AVMA’s first director of its Animal Welfare Division starting in 2006.
Following Dr. Vogel’s promotion, Dr. Gail Golab was assigned the position of Interim Director of the Animal Welfare Division. Dr. Golab has been associate director of the Animal Welfare Division since it was created in 2006.
These staff moves follow the hiring of Dr. Ron DeHaven as the AVMA’s new Executive Vice President who assumed that role in early August. Dr. DeHaven was most recently Administrator of the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
In addition, Dr. Robert "Bud" Hertzog has been appointed Chair of the 2007-2008 American Veterinary Medical Foundation. The other members of the 2007-2008 AVMF board of directors are Dr. George W.
