Checkoff staff is representing animal ag on the National Occupational Research Agenda Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing Sector Council for NIOSH.
Dr. Liz Wagstrom, Assistant Vice President of Science and Technology, has been named to the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing Council for the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). NIOSH is a part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is tasked with research and implementation to improve occupational safety within the U.S. The concept and rationale for this NORA council is to identify the top problems in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector and to develop a national research strategic plan and implementation plan to address these problems for the next decade.
Pork Checkoff’s proactive efforts on occupational safety were recognized by Wagstrom’s appointment to this council. More than 100 people were nominated and approximately 25 were selected for appointment to the council. Wagstrom is the only person on the council representing an animal industry/commodity.
The first meeting of the NORA council was held on February 22, and semi-annual meetings are planned for the next two years.
