The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has reported an outbreak of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) in the state of Ceara.
The outbreak, confirmed by virus isolation on January 15, occurred in a 32 head swine herd affecting 3 pigs all of which reportedly died. This outbreak is in a region of the country considered CSF positive. Vaccination is prohibited. Movement controls and quarantines have been initiated and stamping out will be undertaken. The last reported outbreak of CSF was in June, 2006.
