Dr. Scott Dee, Alexandria, Minn., was installed as the president of the AASV at the association’s annual meeting in Kansas City. He succeeds Dr. Tom Gillespie, Rensselaer, Ind., who is now immediate past president. Joining Drs. Dee and Gillespie as AASV officers are: Dr. Daryl Olsen, Audubon, Iowa, president-elect; and Dr. Kerry Keffaber, North Manchester, Ind., newly elected vice president.
"I am excited, energized and enthused to be the 37th president of the AASV," said Dr. Dee. "I am confident that our association will serve as the model for all veterinary species-oriented associations in regard to how veterinarians work with industry to solve economically significant problems related to food animals. Specifically, my focus will be to build an industry-wide team dedicated to the long-term goal of eliminating the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus from the North American pig population."
Dr. Scott Dee (MIN ’87) is a professor in the Swine Disease Eradication Center at the University of Minnesota. Prior to joining the faculty in 1999, he was a private practitioner in a swine-specific practice in Morris, Minn., for 12 years. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. In 1996, he was named AASV Swine Practitioner of the Year.
Dr. Daryl Olsen (ISU ’82) is a swine practitioner at the Audubon-Manning Veterinary Clinic in Audubon, Iowa. Active in the AASV since 1982, Dr. Olsen is a member of the association’s Pharmaceutical Issues Committee. He is also one of the AASV’s representatives on the board of directors of the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization, Inc.
Dr. Kerry Keffaber (PUR ’81) is a swine technical services consultant at Elanco Animal Health. Prior to joining Elanco Animal Health, Dr. Keffaber was a swine practitioner in Indiana for 21 years. Active in the AASV since 1981, Dr. Keffaber recently completed his second term as a district director for the association. He is a past chair of the PRRS subcommittee, and has served on several planning committees for the association’s annual program.
