AASV Foundation announces recipient of Hogg Scholarship

Dr. Kelly Greiner was named the 2025 recipient of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation Hogg Scholarship during the American Association of Swine Veterinarians 56th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California, on March 3.

Established in 2008, the scholarship is named for Dr. Alex Hogg who was a leader in swine medicine and pursued a master’s degree in veterinary pathology after 20 years in a mixed-animal practice. The scholarship is awarded annually to an AASV member who has been accepted into a qualified graduate program to further their education after years as a swine practitioner. Former Hogg Scholarship recipients Drs. Jessica Seate, Amanda Sponheim, and Melissa Billing reviewed the 2025 applications.

Dr. Kelly Greiner received his DVM in 2001 from Iowa State University and is now pursuing MS in animal welfare and behavior at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a technical service veterinarian with Merck Animal Health. Dr. Greiner plans to use this degree to advocate for the best welfare of the pig. In his position on Merck Animal Health’s welfare team, he intends to use the knowledge gained through the program to also support veterinary and consumer affairs teams.
