Tell Congress: Pass legislation to address illicit xylazine while preserving veterinary access.
The AVMA built tremendous support last Congress for the Combating Illicit Xylazine Act, which would provide the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) resources to help stop the public health crisis of illicit xylazine while maintaining current veterinary access to this important animal sedative.
Xylazine is an effective animal sedative that is critical to facilitating the safe handling and treatment of many species. Congress needs to act now to make the statutory changes necessary to help preserve the availability of this prescription animal drug for its critical uses in veterinary medicine as a controlled drug.
Thank you for advocating on behalf of the veterinary profession.
