Position Announcement: Multi-Species Veterinarian – Iowa

Spencer Ag Center is excited to offer a multi-species veterinary associate the opportunity to join our dedicated team.  We are growing our mixed animal practice located 25 minutes south of the Iowa Great Lakes in Spencer, Iowa.  Spencer Ag Center serves clients in approximately a 100-mile radius. We work closely with our clients from start to finish, ensuring our services and products always meet and exceed their needs.   

Join our veterinary team as we continue to grow.  We welcome seasoned practitioners to help us expand our expertise, along with new graduates, providing mentorship and receiving/learning from you. Spencer Ag Center provides informational services and products to keep livestock producers—small to large—competitive and current.

Our practice is mainly swine, beef cattle, and small ruminants. Spencer Ag Center is open to new technology and practices. 

Equipment and Facilities

In 2016 we moved into our new, well-maintained building including a modern clean-side; dirty-side; veterinary sample prep and microbiology lab and in-house truck wash.  The equipment we provide includes an ultrasound machine, tilt table, hydraulic chute, a truck with a vet box, IPAD, laptop, individual office space, and cell phone reimbursement.

Job Requirements

As a veterinarian, you already have a good idea of the day-to-day job requirements being a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Here are a few we would like to highlight. You will:

  • Work directly with our livestock clients and become a trusted advisor for their operations.
  • Identify root causes of diseases. Accurately diagnose, treat, prescribe, and help livestock heal and grow more efficiently.
  • Utilize high animal welfare standards in practice.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day problems producers are experiencing.
  • Proactively promote awareness of new medical/antibiotic use/production/welfare/financial technologies.
  • Craft and promote proactive individualized and system health programs.
  • Help our clients be the best they can be.
  • Participate in extensive mentorship and training opportunities on the receiving side and the outreach/teaching side.
  • Provide assigned/designated or your own creative education sessions for our clients.

Training Required

Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine is required. Ability to obtain Iowa and Minnesota license.

Salary

Competitive compensation that will reflect experience.

Benefits immediately upon hire include annual membership dues (AVMA, IVMA, one association of choice, state licensing fees), continuing education up to $3000 annually, professional liability insurance coverage, access to group health insurance plans, dental, vision, workmen’s compensation, matched retirement contributions 100% of the first 3% and 50% of the next 2% of compensation deferrals, 1 year’s salary of term life insurance, disability insurance and flex plan.

Other Personnel

Currently our team consists of one full time veterinarian and two part-time veterinarians, six field marketing experts, three office personnel, seven warehouse personnel/delivery drivers, one of each of the following – logistic coordinator, salesroom expert, records specialist, purchasing coordinator, marketing personnel, Nutritionist PhD.  Our entire team works together to make Spencer Ag Center a success and is available to assist in making your career satisfying.  Our team members have been with us on an average of 15 years. 

Practice Strengths and Business Emphasis

Our practice is production livestock with emphasis on swine, cow-calf, and feedlot. We have non-veterinary resources on our staff.  We provide products to help our clients stay up to date and be profitable.  Our clientele are independent livestock producers in Northwest Iowa and Southern Minnesota.

Practice Area

Spencer and the surrounding area offers charm and quality of life with nearby amenities.  Iowa Great Lakes are 25 miles north.  Clay County Fair, wineries, hunting, fishing, camping, golf courses, community theater, aquatic center, heritage center, bike trails, various social clubs, a historical downtown, many shopping opportunities, and multiple church denominations.
