Angela K. Baysinger Memorial Fund

With the passing of AASV president Dr. Angela Baysinger, AASV lost a valued member, leader, and friend to many. The veterinary profession lost a dedicated veterinarian with a love for pigs and a passion for the well-being of all animals.

To honor Angela’s memory and extend her work to understand and improve animal well-being, the Baysinger family and Merck Animal Health have made generous contributions to establish the Angela K. Baysinger Memorial Fund within the AASV Foundation.

In accordance with the Baysinger family’s wishes, a working group of AASV members and Angela’s colleagues proposed – and the AASV Foundation board approved – that the foundation establish the following initiatives to be funded by the Memorial Fund:

  1. One or more annual scholarships focused on providing educational and mentoring support for students interested in production animal welfare. Up to $10,000 may be disbursed annually, with a maximum award of $5000 per student.
  2. An endowed lecture ($3000 speaker honorarium) to be given annually during the AASV Annual Meeting general session to address production animal welfare. The 2025 AASV Annual Meeting will feature Dr. Anna Johnson presenting the first Angela Baysinger Memorial Lecture: Advancing pig welfare together: Standing on the shoulders of Angela.
  3. Contributions of $7500 in 2024 and 2025 to support the AVMA’s Animal Welfare Assessment Contest in honor of Angela.

See aasv.org/foundation/contribute/memorials/ for more information about each of these activities.

Sincerely,

Harry Snelson, DVM
