CDC’s NORS Dashboard Data Moves to BEAM Dashboard

As of July 29th, 2024, CDC transitioned publicly available foodborne, waterborne, and enteric disease outbreak data from the National Outbreak Reporting System (NORS) Dashboard to NORS View on the Bacteria, Enterics, Amoeba, and Mycotics (BEAM) Dashboard. NORS View includes outbreak data reported through 2022.

NORS data transition

The integration of NORS data into the BEAM Dashboard brings a fresh look and improved functionality with interactive data visualizations and newly added filters for animal types and food categories (from the Interagency Food Safety Analytics Collaboration). This transition empowers you explore and better understand outbreak data and provides more data in a centralized location.

Moving these data to BEAM also means some changes to how users access publicly available NORS data, such as:

  • NORS Dashboard users can now use NORS View on the BEAM Dashboard for data visualizations.
  • Data line lists are now accessible through data.cdc.gov, where users can apply point-and-click filters to view and download data as a CSV file.

Snapshot of 2022 data in NORS View

In 2022, 46 states and territories reported more than 2,000 foodborne, waterborne, or enteric disease outbreaks. These outbreaks resulted in more than 51,000 illnesses, more than 1,200 hospitalizations, and 63 deaths. Most outbreaks were caused by norovirus and occurred in long-term care facilities, followed by schools and daycares.
