Topigs Norsvin USA is currently searching for a Senior Staff Veterinarian. This position will provide technical expertise in health management, including biosecurity and production practices. The Senior Staff Veterinarian must possess the ability to evaluate pig production systems and to develop and manage strategies that maintain high health and improve genetic performance. The Senior Staff Veterinarian will work with both internal Topigs Norsvin USA (TNUSA) farms as well as customers to evaluate, advise and make recommendations to support the performance of TNUSA products.
This exempt full-time position reports to the Director of Veterinary Services. The Senior Staff Veterinarian will provide technical expertise in health management including biosecurity and production practices. The Senior Staff Veterinarian must possess the ability to evaluate pig production systems and to develop and manage strategies that maintain high health and improve genetic performance. The Senior Staff Veterinarian will work with both internal Topigs Norsvin USA (TNUSA) farms as well as customers to evaluate, advise and make recommendations to support the performance of TNUSA products. The Senior Staff Veterinarian must be able to interact effectively with all intercompany departments, in particular the Veterinary Services, Operations, Technical Services and Logistics teams. Essential Functions

- Collaborate with the TNUSA Technical Services team to support multipliers and key customers to ensure maximum understanding and success of Topigs Norsvin products and technologies.
- Perform farm visits to establish positive, effective relationships at TNUSA related facilities with customers, staff, and ancillary personnel.
- Collaborate with TNUSA staff and customers to monitor health, identify threats and risks of exposure, and deploy resources appropriately to manage and mitigate these.
- Build and maintain effective professional relationships with TNUSA consulting veterinarians and customers’ veterinarians to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Design and coordinate sample collection for disease investigations as needed for both TNUSA farms and customer farms.
- Collect and submit monthly surveillance samples such as blood and oral fluids for laboratory diagnosis to ensure optimum health at TNUSA multiplier and nucleus herds.
- Audit external and internal farms on a routine basis to identify potential biosecurity risks and improve biosecurity practices.
- Audit and approve the biosecurity processes in both the feed and transportation businesses that service TNUSA farms and customers.
- Define, train, and hold all personnel accountable for health and biosecurity plans within TNUSA related facilities.
- Perform regulatory duties as required, including prescription and medical record maintenance as well as managing health certificates of inspection for animal movements.
- Remain current on the latest technologies and discoveries in the veterinary field and establish a network of industry and academic contacts.
- Develop action plans with farm personnel to maintain herd health including animal welfare, health management protocols and biosecurity.
- Review and manage diagnostic testing protocols, medication and vaccination plans and the associated reporting and database maintenance.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited veterinary college with current veterinary license in a US state required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in swine medicine and/or production management required.
Competencies
- Superior knowledge of veterinary medicine practices, principles and policies including disease diagnosis and intervention strategy development.
- Superior knowledge of swine industry standard practices of biosecurity, swine health management, animal care, food safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
- Uncompromising commitment to customer service.
- Adaptation to new and changing technology.
- Competence in utilizing computer software tools including all Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to generate and communicate technical documents and materials.
- Positive and proactive attitude in group and individual work environments.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
The Senior Staff Veterinarian generally works in an office environment or production facility.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to move about within a production facility as necessary to support farm staff. Frequent bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods is required. The ability to lift 50 lbs. is required.
Travel
This position requires the ability to travel among the various TNUSA and customer facilities and, as such, requires a current valid driver’s license. There is extensive travel required with this position and often involves overnight stays. Persons who are required to travel must follow the TNUSA Travel Policy guidelines. Some travel will be required outside normal business hours and on weekends.
