Nominations for AASV Board Members Sought in Five Districts

Nominations will open soon for positions on the AASV Board of Directors in Districts #1 (northeastern US), #4 (Indiana and Michigan), #6 (Iowa), #8 (Nebraska and South Dakota), and #10 (Mexico). On Friday, December 1, voting members in those districts will receive emailed links to nominate candidates for their district’s representative. Current directors Drs. Chris Rademacher (District #6) and Christine Mainquist-Whigham (#8) have each served one 3-year term of office and are eligible to serve a second term if nominated and re-elected. In District #10, Dr. Enrique Corona was recently appointed as interim director and is eligible for nomination to a first term. In District #4, Dr. Megan Inskeep has served one term but has opted not to run for a second term at this time. Dr. Melissa Billing in District #1 has served two terms and is not eligible for re-election.

Nominations must be submitted electronically. Beginning Friday, December 1, members in districts 1, 4, 6, 8, and 10 can log into aasv.org/members to nominate a candidate in their district. Potential candidates must be Active (veterinarian) AASV members residing in the district to be represented. Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote. Friday, December 22 is the last day to submit or change a nomination. In each district, the two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.

After the district director candidates have been confirmed, electronic balloting will open in early 2024. The election results will be announced during the AASV Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennesse.

Each newly elected director will be invited to observe the spring 2024 board meeting in a non-voting capacity and will serve a three-year term of office that begins at the conclusion of the meeting, scheduled for April 24 and 25.

The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV; see haasv.org/aasv/contacts.html for the current board roster and district apportionment. The Board of Directors meets twice annually (typically in March/April and September/October – often in Des Moines or Perry, Iowa – to set policies and conduct association business. Minutes of past board meetings are available for review at aasv.org/aasv/board.htm. Occasionally, the board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions.
