Have you ever considered serving the AASV in a governing role? Or is there a member you would like to see in a leadership position within AASV? Take note: very soon, nominations for the office of AASV District Director will be sought in FIVE AASV districts. In a few weeks, each eligible voter in Districts 1 (Northeastern US: OH, PA, WV, VA, MD, DE, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME); 4 (IN, MI); 6 (IA); 8, ( NE, SD); and 10 (Mexico) will be receiving an email message containing the nomination link for their district.
Current district 1 director Dr. Melissa Billing has already served two terms and is not eligible for re-election. District 4 director Dr. Megan Inskeep has served one term but has declined renomination.
In districts 6 and 8, the current directors (Dr. Chris Rademacher in District 6 and Dr. Christine Mainquist-Whigham in District 8) have each served one term and are eligible for renomination.
In district 10, Dr. Enrique Corona was appointed as interim director; he is eligible for nomination.
Potential candidates must be Active (veterinarian) AASV members residing in the district to be represented (Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote). In each district, the two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.
Each newly elected director will be invited to observe the spring 2024 board meeting in a non-voting capacity and will serve a three-year term of office that begins at the conclusion of the meeting, scheduled for April 24 and 25, 2024.
The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV; see aasv.org/aasv/contacts.html for the current board roster and district apportionment. The Board of Directors meets in-person twice annually (typically in March/April and September/October – often in Des Moines or Perry, Iowa) to set policies and conduct association business. The board engages in additional virtual meetings or e-mail discussions as needed throughout the year. Minutes of past board meetings are available for review at aasv.org/aasv/board.htm.
