Apiam Swine Services has a position available for a veterinarian seeking to further their career in swine health and production. The position is 100% swine and is based in Dalby or Toowoomba, Queensland.
THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR APIAM’S RURAL VETERINARY SUPPORT/STUDENT DEBT REDUCTION PROGRAM – Applications for this program are open now and close 30 November. Limited places available.
Apiam Swine Services provides herd health and production consulting across the Australian pig industry from large corporates, family farms and hobby farmers. Apiam also operates two boar studs, and a diagnostic and autogenous vaccine laboratory, enabling an integrated approach to swine health and production. We also work closely with both universities and clients undertaking research and development projects.
A typical day involves scheduled farm visits, developing and reviewing herd health programs, maintaining scripts and quality assurance requirements, analysis of production data, caregiver training, abattoir surveillance, and undertaking applied R&D activities. The role has a high degree of flexibility and rarely involves any weekend work.
There is a supportive team consisting of 12 veterinarians, a production consultant and key account managers with a range of veterinary and production experience. We have a good mix of senior, mid-level and newer graduate veterinarians with most our vets having worked in the business for at least 5 years. Don’t know if you’re getting the most up-to-date support and advice? We work in conjunction with Dr John Carr, a registered specialist and other vets have their ACVS membership. All of our vets are happy to support and/or mentor all new additions to the team.
We have some unique software systems to make our lives easier especially in the area of production consulting, and collaborate with other veterinarians and service providers around the world. We pride ourselves in being very active in farmer education through the provision of seminars and courses and are significant financial contributors to our local communities and industry including state farming organisations as well as being the only veterinary business that is a shareholder of Australian Pork Research Innovation Limited (APRIL).
Salary is commensurate with experience, plus you will receive paid AVA membership and Veterinary Surgeons Board registration. A decent vehicle, mobile phone, laptop and relocation assistance are also part of the package. We offer paid volunteer leave and parental/maternity leave and plenty of other perks that come with being part of the Apiam family.
Opportunities across the Apiam clinics are encouraged, and we offer industry-leading internal training as well as opportunities to attend both local and international conferences. New graduates benefit from our Graduate Development Program which offers mentorship, small group support and hands-on workshops.
