It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. S. Ernest Sanford, at home in London, Ontario on Sunday, July 23, 2023.
Loving husband to Sandra, father to Natalie and Seneca (Beth), and proud grandfather to all of his grandchildren. Born in 1944 in New Amsterdam, Guyana, Ernest came to Guelph, Ontario to attend University at the age of 18. He would go on to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, later earning Board Certifications in Pathology and Ophthalmology. During his lengthy career in veterinary pathology, Ernest became a leading international expert in swine diseases.
Dr. S. Ernest Sanford was a member of AASP/V from 1993 through 2014. He received the Howard Dunne Memorial Award in 2007. He served on the AASV Board of Directors representing District 11 (Canada) from 2005 through 2011 and also served as Director of the Canadian Association of Swine Veterinarians. He was President of the Organizing Committee that successfully bid for and conducted IPVS 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.
He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
