Healthy Reindeer Cleared for Takeoff

As the official veterinarian of the North Pole, AVMA President Dr. Lori Teller has given Santa’s reindeer the green light to fly!

You can take a peek at her veterinary inspection of the herd, resulting in the reindeer team getting the green light for international travel. With their certificate of veterinary inspection in hand (and after checking it twice), these cervids are certified healthy for their holiday mission.

Spread the word in your clinic

The annual examination of Santa’s reindeer can not only spread cheer but also help promote the important work of veterinarians. Veterinary inspections are needed for animals traveling across state or national borders, to ensure they don’t spread infectious diseases or parasites to other animals or people. You can share the official "North Pole Certificate of Animal Export" that allows Santa to freely cross borders and ensure health officials that his reindeer pose no threat to animal or public health. It’s a discussion that shows just one of the many ways veterinarians make the world healthier and safer for all species.

So, shout it from the rooftops (or inside your clinic)–all nine reindeer are up to date on vaccinations, free of disease, and fit for sky travel!
