The nomination process is currently underway for positions on the AASV Board of Directors in Districts #2 (southeastern US), #5 (Illinois and Wisconsin), #9 (Minnesota and North Dakota) and #11 (Canada). Eligible voting members in each district have been sent an email message containing a link to the online form enabling them to nominate a candidate in their district. Alternatively, eligible voters may log into aasv.org/members to access their nomination form. Current directors Drs. Sara Hough (District #2), Attila Farkas (#5), and Susan Detmer (#11) have each served one 3-year term of office and are eligible to serve a second term if nominated and re-elected. In District #9, Dr. Chase Stahl has moved and is not eligible for re-election.
Nominations must be submitted online; emailed nominations cannot be accepted. Potential candidates must be Active (veterinarian) AASV members residing in the district to be represented. Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote. In each district, the two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve. Friday, January 20 is the last day to submit or change a nomination.
Electronic balloting will open for the district director positions after the candidates have been confirmed. The election results will be announced during the AASV Annual Meeting in Aurora, Colorado.
Each newly elected director will be invited to observe the spring 2023 board meeting in a non-voting capacity and will serve a three-year term of office that begins at the conclusion of the meeting, scheduled for April 26 and 27.
The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV; see aasv.org/aasv/contacts.html for the current board roster and district apportionment. The Board of Directors meets twice annually (typically in March/April and September/October – often in Des Moines or Perry, Iowa – to set policies and conduct association business. Minutes of past board meetings are available for review at aasv.org/aasv/board.htm. Occasionally, the board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions.
