This Veterinary Medical Officer position will work closely, collaborate, and coordinate with the Manager of the National Animal Vaccine and Veterinary Countermeasures Bank (NAVVCB), as all testing and purchasing efforts are synergized between these entities, oversee all components of the banks’ day-to-day operations with an in-depth knowledge and provide extensive experience with vaccines for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) at the National Veterinary Services Laboratories.
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Supports day-to-day operations of the NAFMDVB, and the NAVVCB, scientifically and managerially.
- Develops molecular biological and/or immunological assays for characterizing seed viruses for vaccine production and for analysis of FMD vaccines.
- Oversees team members in all testing on FMD vaccines and vaccine antigen concentrates (VAC) to ensure the safety, potency and purity of these products.
- Implements and maintains internationally accepted quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Communicates with Commissioners and related officials in Canada and the United States on issues concerning FMD vaccines
- Communicates with technical and executive committees on issues concerning FMD vaccines.
- Provides APHIS Veterinary Services and International Services staff and field personnel with information and technical assistance.
- Provides information, training, and reference assistance to international country, state and university, and diagnostic laboratories and disease management officials on FMD vaccine related issues.
