Leadership Opportunity: AVMA Committees

AASV designates representatives for several committees of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The Clinical Practitioners Advisory Committee and the Legislative Advisory Committee each have immediate openings for an alternate representative from the AASV. AASV members who are also AVMA members are eligible.

Clinical Practitioners Advisory Committee

Purpose: The purpose of the Clinical Practitioners Advisory Committee is to serve as an advisory committee to the Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents and insure wide species-based, veterinary practitioner input on issues of biologic and therapeutic agents including but not limited to drug availability, distribution, use and residue control, and on quality assurance for products of food animal origin.

Term: Position to be filled immediately; term ends August 2023

Meetings: The committee meets twice each year, prior to and in conjunction with the meetings of the Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents. Meeting agendas are established by the Committee Chair.

Legislative Action Committee

Purpose: The purpose of the Legislative Action Committee is to assist the AVMA Board of Directors in formulating and implementing AVMA legislative policy and AVMA positions on federal regulatory proposals.

Term: Position to be filled immediately; term ends August 2023

Meetings: The Committee shall meet in the spring and fall of each year in Washington, D.C. The Chair may invite the Board of Governors to attend the meetings. While in Washington, the Committee will make Capitol Hill visits to their Members of Congress and Executive Branch Officials. The Chair shall also have the authority to convene additional meetings and/or to initiate conference calls of the Committee as deemed necessary.
