AASV District 8 (Nebraska, South Dakota) is joining Districts 1, 4, and 6 in holding an election for District Director in 2021. The current District 8 Director, Dr. Monte Fuhrman, is moving out of the district. The AASV Bylaws dictate that a director must reside within the district they represent. Eligible voters in the district may nominate candidates to run for the position. Nominations are being conducted electronically; the nomination link will be emailed to each eligible voter, who may also access the nomination link by logging into their AASV member account at aasv.org/members.
Potential candidates must be Active (veterinarian) AASV members residing in Nebraska or South Dakota (Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote). The two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.
The newly elected director will serve a three-year term of office that includes the upcoming spring Board of Directors meeting scheduled for April 8.
The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV; see aasv.org/aasv/contacts.html for the current board roster and district apportionment. The Board of Directors meets twice annually (typically in March/April and September/October – often in Des Moines or Perry, Iowa, but lately by teleconference due to COVID-19) to set policies and conduct association business. Minutes of past board meetings are available for review at aasv.org/aasv/board.htm. Occasionally, the board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions.
