Reminder – COVID-19 Related Resources for Swine Veterinarians

AASV continues to add resources to the COVID-19 swine veterinarian resource page. See below for a summary of new and updated resources.

New and updated resources include

  • Checklist: Veterinarian considerations for swine depopulation and disposal
  • Recommendations for depopulation of swine (Updated June 9)
  • Depopulation summary form
  • AVMA decision flowchart: Evaluating emergency euthanasia or depopulation of livestock and poultry
  • CO2 sources
  • Farm emergency toolboxes from the National Pork Board (continually updated)
  • Farm stress management and other COVID-19 mental health and well-being resources for veterinarians, farm personnel, and others
  • Critical infrastructure guidance
    • Agriculture workers and employers, worker safety and support
    • Meat and poultry processing facility assessment toolkit

To date, there have been no reports of swine acquiring or spreading SARS-CoV-2. An April 2020 study by the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute found that pigs are not susceptible to infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The AASV and other industry leaders continue to monitor numerous research projects underway in the United States.
