The Challenge:
The food animal industry is very diverse and influenced by global consumer preferences, disease challenges and direct production costs that can dramatically impact product market value. Additionally, this industry is being challenged by consumer groups and regulatory agencies to produce their meat/dairy/egg products without the aid of feed additive antibiotics and do so with less impact on environmental resources such as ground water and air pollution. Couple this with a global over-production of meat products and its little wonder why the producers are struggling to differentiate and add value to their products in a commodity-driven industry. This creates unique opportunities and challenges for New Business Development Animal Nutrition and Health (ANH) and ANH divisions to grow and remain profitable.
In order to bring value to DSM Nutritional Products product line, Senior Technical Support Manager Swine must demonstrate the profitable advantages of DSM products to the customer and how they, in turn, bring value to the customers’ products.
In the role of Senior Technical Support Manager Swine, you will:
- Define product position & marketing strategies that generate sales of innovative and technically complicated products
- Create product value for existing products by developing new markets and differentiating DNP products from competitive commodity products
- Participate in the development and execution of the New Business Development (NBD) customer action plans. Support Marketing Plan of Action by working directly with assigned salesperson(s) to develop a plan for targeted influencers and work to provide professional support to targeted and key accounts. Implements and completes targeted plans. Responsible for joint communication between sales and technical services for assessment progress
- Assist with attaining new business by overcoming customer blockages and initiating the prospect to order process through technical persuasion and sales support
- Execute a role as the DSM’s technical ambassador through technical presentations at industry meetings & academic symposia, technical publications, issue-pertinent fact sheets, participating in industry-specific committees and organizations and developing Animal, Nutrition, & Health (ANH) sales training opportunities and tools for value-added marketing and sales campaigns. Provides an on-going program of training sales force within specified territory on 1) how to utilize technical literature; 2) new programs and practices relating to DSM products; 3) the correct positioning of DSM products in the market and new health and nutrition challenges of the target industry
- Support existing ANH business in a technical role by providing solution-oriented investigations into customers’ issues. Provide technical support for assigned sales products including securing orders for products, investigating customer requirements for product applications, investigating and resolving problems, and providing technical interface between customer and company. Develops and contacts with established and potential customers, maintain files, records and other literature on new products
- Capture the customers’ business vision in order to keep ANH in the forefront on value-linked product innovations and NBD/ANH focused on fulfilling its strategic mission goals by relaying information through appropriate channels
- Provide field evaluation related to ANH products and provide recommendations to end user or related industry influencers (feed manufacturers, live production managers, veterinarians, nutritionists, etc.) to correct deficiencies or maximize benefits of DSM products. Acts as professional and technical consultant in support of activities assigned to Marketing and Sales of Animal Health products. Reports orally or in writing the activities that occur within the area of assignment and technical expertise
- Design, monitor, analyze and reports on research and field studies
What we want to see in you:
- DVM required
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience in a technical/scientific role, preferably in an animal production environment required
- Ability to translate scientific knowledge to commercial applications.
- Sales or marketing experience a definite plus.
- Organizational management, team-building and social skills
- Ability to influence key decision-makers who drive internal objectives which impact the key areas of accountability
- Articulate, direct and the ability to read the audience
- Ability to discuss and explain complex technical information to a broad range of individuals from business management to production and farm managers; from scientists and academicians to students and the general public.
This position is in a home-based office located in the US, with preference for the Midwest or NC where the primary customer base is located.
