Researchers Focused on Infectious Respiratory Disease in Pigs May Apply for Boehringer Ingelheim Research Awards

Practicing veterinarians, researchers and academics may now apply for one of three $35,000 awards for research related to infectious respiratory disease in pigs.

Boehringer Ingelheim sponsors the Awards for Advancing Research in Respiratory Disease. The awards have provided $1.2 million since 2002 for research into some of the industry’s most pressing questions about the diagnosis, control and management of porcine respiratory infectious diseases.

The deadline is January 15, 2019 to apply for awards of $35,000 each. The Respiratory Disease Research Board will review applications. It consists of seven independent swine veterinarians and researchers.

Proposals may relate to:

  • Porcine circovirus Type 2 (PCV2)
  • Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae
  • Influenza A virus in swine (IAV-S)
  • Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome

"Research propels our industry forward by creating innovative, field-applicable solutions to problems facing producers and veterinarians," said Dr. Reid Philips, DVM, PRRS technical manager, Boehringer Ingelheim. "We are proud to support this effort and excited to see new ideas that help swine operations reach their full potential."
