As a veterinarian at Smithfield Hog Production of Missouri, you will help us in these goals by being responsible for monitoring herd health; identifying clinical signs of disease, and creating and implementing appropriate herd health strategies; developing and auditing bio-security practices and procedures; and coordinating farm staff members to achieve goals of maintenance of herd health and to maintain bio-security procedures.
Responsibilities
The veterinarian may perform any combination of tasks as part of the Vet Services Team including, but not limited to:
- Interacting with management to identify clinical signs of disease
- Auditing internal systems for potential bio-security hazards
- Performing farm visits to maintain an awareness of our current health status
- Conducting necropsy examinations and any other testing, including serology, important to monitor the health status of our farms
- Adhering to budgets related to veterinary medicine
- Understanding animal flow through an animal production system
- Implementing disease control programs
- Educating company personnel on items relating to herd health
- Actively participating in other industry groups that are beneficial: AASV, NPB, AVMA-CPAC
Qualifications
Candidates are required to possess a DVM degree, and experience in the swine industry as a veterinarian with a production emphasis is preferred.
