The Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications from qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position in Swine Health Management at Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a renowned swine health research program and participate in teaching undergraduate and graduate students in both classroom and clinical settings. The position will help support the western Canadian swine industry that produces ~14 million hogs annually from ~600,000 sows on 3,400 farms.
The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to various commercial swine production systems and research facilities including Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline and Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences and VIDO-Intervac Research Institute. Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (or equivalent) and be eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan. Diplomate status with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) – Swine Health Management will be a requirement for tenure. Previous academic experience such as a faculty position, postdoctoral fellowship or residency in swine health is required as is a PhD degree in a supportive discipline. Familiarity with the North American swine industry is essential and must be supported by evidence of leadership in swine disease investigation(s) or applied research in commercial production systems. Applicants must have a proven commitment to high quality teaching and research. Applicants should have demonstrated an ability to succeed in a collaborative research and teaching environment. Excellent communication skills and teaching experience are required.
Salary bands for this position are as follows: Assistant Professor: $93,293 to $112,109; Associate Professor: $112,109 to $130,925.
